- Tip 1 : Locate the incoming main water
supply stop and label it 'MAIN". Do not block
the access to this valve for any reason.
- Tip 2 : Locate, identify and label
all other stop valves under all sinks and check
them periodically
by turning the vales on and off at least twice a
year.
- Tip 3 : Make sure you know the
location the drain valves incase you need to empty
the water of the central heating systems.
- Tip 4 : Ensure that all exposed pipes
and storage system are properly insulated,
particularly in the roof space or attic.
- Tip 5 : Before the weather reached 40
degrees, turn off all feeds to outside faucets
and hoses. This will prevent water pipes
from freezing. If you have a storage cistern in the
roof space it will be sensible to open the hatch
to allow some heat from the house to help keep
the cistern from freezing.
- Tip 6 : Inspect your cold water
storage system (metal tank) regularly and check
for pipe corrosion.
- Tip 7 : Check the condition of
flexible hosepipes to plumbed-in domestic
appliances at regular intervals.
- Tip 8 : Dripping taps and ball-valves
are a sure sign that your
plumbing system requires maintenance. To
avoid them becoming major problems call in your
plumber without delay.
- Tip 9 : Have central
heating boilers
and other
heating
appliances serviced regularly.
